• APEC continues to hold demonstrations and other educational activities to raise awareness about the need to end the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.



• APEC recently organized the first support group in Southwest Virginia for gays, lesbians, their families and friends. The goals of this organization is to create a safe place for gays and lesbians and their supporters to discuss common issues and to work to make Southwest Virginia a safer community for people of all sexual orientations.
  
  
• APEC is the sponsor of the newly formed Democracy Now Tri-Cities (DNTC). This organization was created to promote and support the alternative news program Democracy Now! The group functions as a loose network of progressive citizens determined to preserve the presence of Democracy Now! on our local airwaves. In the process, members of the group get to know each other, network, and promote the progressive values of Democracy Now! in our own community. DNTC’s website has become a clearing house for progressive events and organizations in Southwest Virginia, East Tennessee, as well as Western North Carolina.
  
  
• APEC mails a newsletter, APEC News, to approximately six hundred households each quarter with information about local as well as global issues, promoting peace and justice and celebrating our efforts.



• Each January, APEC sponsors the oldest ongoing Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration in our region.



• APEC's Iraq Group meets once a month to outline activist strategies for action against the war and occupation.
